今天是ANZAC Day。 ANZAC全名是Australian and New Zealand Army Corps。有人翻譯為澳紐聯軍紀念日, 也有人稱作澳紐軍人節, 無論名字是什麼, 今天我們是要紀念第一次世界大戰時期, 在加里波利之戰犧牲的澳大利亞和紐西蘭聯合軍團中的軍人。
加里波利戰役是澳大利亞軍隊和紐西蘭軍隊第一個大型聯合軍事行動，1915年4月25日，澳紐軍團在土耳其愛琴海加里波利登岸，目的是要佔領要加里波利半島讓聯盟的其他海軍登陸。當時的土耳其防軍當然不會袖手旁觀, 他們激烈抵抗。 原本計劃了的快攻變成了僵持, 足足打了八個月聯軍才撤退。雙方也傷亡慘重, 只計澳洲軍人就死了八千多人!雖然戰爭敗了, 可是當時澳紐軍人的英勇表現是值得我們紀念的。 每年的4月25日就成為了澳紐聯軍紀念日(ANZAC Day)。
紀念日除了記錄和紀念所有為戰爭貢獻過的人和團體, 也警剔世人戰爭的禍害, 在此希望世界和平!!
ANZAC Day on April 25 is a national day of remembrance and commemoration. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War, and this year the two nations commemorate and remember the centenary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. On ANZAC Day, Australians honour those who have served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

ANZAC Day除了有遊行也有一個很簡易但特別的賭局。這賭局叫Two-up, 其實就是猜公字, 即拋二個硬幣, 猜公字, 猜中就嬴錢, 這睹局起源於軍人在戰壕和戰船上玩的, 流傳至今。而它特別之處就是只有今天ANZAC Day才合法玩的, 其他日子不能玩呢!! 
Two-up is a game in which coins are spun in the air and bets are laid on whether they fall on heads or tails. This game is only legally playable throughout NSW on ANZAC Day, Victory of the Pacific Day (15 August) and Remembrance Day (11 November). The game’s association with ANZAC Day originates from the First World War, during which two-up was played in the trenches and on the troop ships.
